Shortly after arriving in Paris, Zed(Stoltz) is offered a "wife for
the night" by a cab driver. He accepts the offer and Zoe(Delpy),
an art student whoring for her tuition, shows up at his hotel room.
After some witty small talk, she undresses slowly according to his wish
while he relaxes, before she gets on top of him and slowly rides him
as the classic vampire film Nosferatu intermittently plays between
instances of sex. The vampire clip suggests something dark and
troubling in this encounter, and proves prophetic later in the movie
when Zed and Zoe meet again, like a love he was not to have.
