When Annie (Blanchett) has a vision of Jessica (Holmes) drowned, wrapped in chains and possibly
around a fiddler, she calls on the police who follow the possible lead to Donnie's (Reeves) pond.
Donnie comes home not very pleased to see the police and Annie on his private property, but when
Jessica's body is lifted out of the water, all eyes turn to him while his own is centered on the
fortune teller. Annie, still reeling from Donnie's punch, looks on in horror at the lifeless
face staring back at her, this time for real. Holmes herself does a splendid job of playing dead
and not just a regular corpse lying on a table, but immersed in a cold, backwater pond. She remains
motionless despite the frigid temperatures.
