summary:
Set in England in the 1660’s, an era when men played the female parts on stage and women were not allowed to act. Ned Kynaston (Billy Crudup) is the most beloved female impersonator of his time until King Charles II grows weary of seeing ladyboys and allows women to take the stage. Ned’s career is threatened and he is confused, but Maria (Claire Danes), the first woman actress, tries to help Ned find new meaning to his life.
