Defeated by his own desires for power, Balkan's (Langella) ritualistic castle becomes his
tomb. As it burns, Corso (Depp) watches, but is confronted by his protector (Seigner),
who seduces him. The two make love amidst the flaming backdrop of the night, both bodies
moving with pleasure. Yet a wicked smile and look crosses her eyes. Their night of passion
will end innocently enough and she would never be heard from again. So, was she a demon?
Was she a guardian angel? Was this his reward for recovering the engravings? Sadly, the
movie never reveals her motives for seducing him.
