Disability is not castration, as Joel(Stoltz) begins to experience the love of a woman again
with Anna(Hunt). Suddenly feeling a wet spot, Anna looks over and the reality dawns on Joel - he has lost control of
his bladder. Embarrassed and frustrated with himself and the condition he is in, he gives up their
sexual encounter as Anna consoles him understandingly. If not for the seriousness of the acting, this
scene would have been comedic, if not camp. But one feels the love between the couple, as they deal with the
difficulties a handicap can have on a relationship. Looking at Helen Hunt, you might wish you were
in a wheel chair too.
